On Friday evening 15 November, we were invited to the festive opening of the new DHL Express Service Center in Zwolle. This Service Center, situated on Hessenpoort business park, focuses on international express shipments. It is the second location in the Dutch DHL express network to achieve the 'BREEAM outstanding' certificate, the highest possible sustainability classification in the Netherlands.
The 'green' Service Center has solar panels to meet the electricity demand, including that of the electric charging stations for vehicles. Rainwater is collected and used to flush toilets or wash cars. The building is lit by energy-efficient LED lighting linked to motion sensors. There is even an insect hotel. An air, light and temperature control system ensures good working conditions.
Another reason why this location is special is that it is the first to have equipped part of its warehouse for loading containers for City Hubs. These City Hubs will act as satellites to deliver shipments by bicycle, among other modes of transport. The new Service Center at Mindenstraat 9 in Zwolle also houses a shop where customers can pick up and deliver their own shipments. Alongside serving its mostly business clientele, the shop also handles global express shipments for private individuals.
DHL will continue to invest in expanding its network in the near future. We look forward to even more successful collaborations and festive openings!
