NEW AUTOMATED PARCEL SORTING SYSTEM FOR POSTEN NORGE AS
Posten Norge AS intend to co-locate the processing of parcels and unit loads in a new terminal outside of Stavanger. VanRiet designed the automated sorting solution for the new sorting center, where both parcels and pallets will be handled. The new terminal is expected to be up-and-running and in production from April 2019.
The sorting system will take care of the transport and sortation of the conveyable products in the morning and evening transshipment process. The system handles the products from up to 4 truck loaders, 2 cage tippers and 2 pallets/roller cage unloading lines and sorts them to 26 destinations in total. The VanRiet HC Sorter is the heart of the system. “The VanRiet sorting system can sort a lot of various packages and the system will prepare us for future expansions. In addition, VanRiet delivered the most economically advantageous offer in the competition. We are looking forward to work with VanRiet in this project.” Torleiv Brennhovd, Category Manager at Posten Norge AS.
Posten Norge AS was looking for a reliable solution, being able to handle a wide variety in parcels. “The HC Sorter is the ideal solution for the parcel industry, it is very reliable and sorts a large variety of products like cardboard boxes, totes, bagged items and flats up to 50 kilograms up to a speed of 3 meters per second.” says Andrew Sidharta, Account Manager Courier Express Parcel at VanRiet. The HC Sorter has a fully closed deck that prevents dust and other particles from getting inside the sorter, thus minimizing downtime.
The sorting solution
The HC Sorter serves 4 bi-directional lines, 20 roller cage loading exits, via 20 spiral chutes, 2 rework chutes and an overflow. To realize the high capacity without any delays and including peaks, the installed machine capacity will be about 6.500 parcels per hour with a speed of 2,4 meter per second.
Solution for the future
The system is designed to reach higher speed and therefore prepared for future expansion for the expected growth of Posten Norge AS. A lower system speed can be easily arranged with the touch panel, to reduce energy consumption during the inbound process in the morning. This new solution allows Posten Norge AS to focus on its core business: the collection and delivery of parcels, now and in the future.
