VanRiet develops comprehensive sorting solution for the Geis Group

  • Customized sorting solutions for two locations
  • HC Sorter processing 16,000 packages per hour
  • Close cooperation and 24/7 service on all equipment

Houten (Netherlands) / Prague (Czech Republic) / Lodz (Poland), 23 January 2018 – The Dutch VanRiet Group develops two comprehensive intralogistics systems for logistic service provider Geis. Both solutions are constructed in a similar way, form the heart of the sorting activities and are thus part of the modernization of Geis’ logistics centres in Modletice near Prague and Lodz in Poland. The systems were recently installed and operationalized.

„We consciously opted for VanRiet’s HC Sorter to ensure a permanently efficient sorting process’, says Daniel Knaisl, Managing Director at Geis. Its closed surface keeps waste from entering the machine, thus preventing malfunctions and lowering downtime. In addition, this construction method improves working conditions, as it generates very little noise. Besides its reliability, the HC Sorter mainly stands out for its flexibility: it can, for example, process a multitude of different packages up to 50 kilograms at a maximum speed of three meters per second.

After being guided into the sorter, the packages are divided into two main lines by 16 telescope transporters at high speed. Depending on the destination, the machine will sort the packages to the right output line at a maximum of 16,000 packages per hour. VanRiet has achieved this performance by combining two HC Sorters. Overall, the system in Prague has 41 output lines, where the packages are loaded onto the trucks. Lodz even has 44.

Intensive cooperation

Geis’ decision to commission VanRiet again for the comprehensive modernization of both its logistics centres was not only based on the technical features of the sorters but mainly on the smooth cooperation so far. Michal Martinovič, responsible manager for the Geis Group in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, has had his expectations fully met: ‘We are very happy with the HC Sorter and VanRiet’s work, in that the company always develops customized, individual solutions that deliver.’

They also deliver on their high standards of service. The Dutch intralogistics specialist operates its own Service Department in Poland, for instance, to be able to be on the spot quickly in case of malfunctions. In addition, VanRiet offers 24/7 Service from the company seat in Houten. The systems integrator has special IT tools to test the equipment at the relevant site on software malfunctions and partly solve issues immediately. This allows the client to focus on its core activities without interruptions.
